The most famous specialty in Kobe is Kobe Beef. The beef is finely layered, glossy, lean, and marbled with creamy fat. Its tenderness and delicious taste are highly appreciated both in Japan and abroad.
Kobe is blessed with rice, water and the cold wind that rolls down from Mt. Rokko. These factors unique to the location have made it possible for the Nada sake breweries to produce 30% of the nation’s sake. There are large, medium and small breweries, each brewery producing its own particular flavor.
Kobe began handling pearls after the opening of the port to foreign trade in the middle of the Meiji era. Kobe handles 80% of Japan’s pearl processing and distribution and is the world’s largest pearl distribution center.
